Tony Burgess

Leadership Foundations is designed and facilitated by Dr. Anthony Burgess, Colonel, U.S. Army (Retired)—founder of the Cornwall Leadership Institute.

Tony graduated from West Point in 1990 and served as an Army officer for 24 years. While serving, he helped create a grass-roots, peer-to-peer learning network for junior officers. What started out as CompanyCommand.com, grew into a leader development and organizational learning research center at West Point that has positively impacted the way the Army develops leaders and has been held up as a model for cutting-edge leader development and peer-to-peer learning (Harvard Business Review, Fast Company Magazine, etc.).

As a member of the 1999-2000 Eisenhower Leadership Development Program—a Masters Degree Program at West Point in partnership with Long Island University—Tony earned the Distinguished Performance Award, and he went on to earn a Doctorate of Science in Engineering Management at the George Washington University. He is the author or co-author of a number of articles, research reports, book chapters, and two books: Taking the Guidon: Exceptional Leadership at the Company Level (2001) and Company Command: Unleashing the Power of the Army Profession (2005).

He has been part of a number of cutting-edge leadership development programs. For example, as the co-founder and director of a leadership center at West Point, teaching leadership to special operations leaders, and coaching Harvard MBA students in the Authentic Leadership Development elective at the Harvard Business School.

Leadership Foundations brings together the best of Tony’s leadership knowledge and experience in a way that positively transforms the lives of those who participate.
